Safety training for a new employee
A new worker does not yet know the place, the machines or the risks — which is exactly why they need training before they start work, not in a month when a group has gathered and a trainer is booked.
What a new worker's training covers
The training fits the job and the place, and usually goes through:
- The risks of the job and the department, and how to work safely around them
- Personal protective equipment — what is required, when and how
- What to do in an emergency: exits, fire fighting and first aid
- How to report a hazard, a near miss and an accident
- The rules of the place: walkways, no-go areas, working near powered vehicles
Why on the first day
The first weeks are when a new worker is most exposed: they do not yet know where the danger is, and may not feel free to ask. Group training that waits for the next session leaves them untrained exactly then.
How it works in LomdaSafe
- Add the worker and their job — the job's trainings are assigned by themselves.
- The worker gets a link by SMS, WhatsApp or e-mail. One joining link for all new workers works too.
- They open it on their phone, choose their language and go through the training step by step, with a question after every topic.
- At the end they sign on screen and receive a work certificate with an expiry date.
- The safety officer sees on the dashboard who has finished, who is midway and who has not started.
And after the first training
Every work certificate carries an expiry date. Thirty days before it lapses the officer sees the worker on the refresher list, and a worker with an e-mail address gets a reminder too — so the annual refresher is not forgotten.
